Inaugural Brier Creek 5K Trail Run took place on September 29, 2018. For more details, click here.

Ribbon Cutting: On September 18, 2018 the US Army Corps of Engineers held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the re-opening of the Nolin River downstream of Nolin River Lake. The river had been essentially impassable after the failure of lock & dam #6 in November 2016. See announcement in the following section. Using an interagency agreement with the National Park Service, Corps employees removed hundreds of trees that had fallen across the river and created extremely dangerous conditions. With these fallen trees removed, the river is now passable for recreational paddlers.

The 10th Annual Lake Cleanup was another resounding success! We had 188 volunteers donate their Saturday morning to make our lake a better, cleaner place for all of us. As this annual tradition continues, we are noticing that the trash being collected appears to contain more "current season" items and fewer old big items like appliances and tires. That's a strong indication that the annual cleanup program is making a real difference, and allows us to expand future efforts into new areas. There was a volunteer appreciation event afterwards at the Moutardier picnic shelter with food donated by Bee Spring Restaurant and $400 in raffle prizes donated by Friends of Nolin Lake. Thanks to all of the volunteers, to Hart County Solid Waste and Scott Waste, and to Moutardier Marina, Wax Marina and Jeanine's Boat Rental for donating time, waste services and boats to make the program a success. Thanks especially to the US Army Corps of Engineers for overall oversight and coordination of this important program.

Friends of Nolin Free Camp Out : The free-to-members fall camp out happened on a beautiful weekend on our beautiful lake. The summer rush was winding down and the Wax campground was peaceful and serene. The next free-to-members camp out is planned for Spring 2019 in Moutardier campground. Check here later for dates and details.

Nolin Fest 2018 was a roaring success, with great music, great food, great vendors, great participants, great weather and a super great fireworks show! Thanks to all who came and participated!
